It helps to tell your near and dear ones about your intention. Remove all items that are associated with smoking from around you ash trays, wrappers etc. Avoid going to places where you usually smoke or buy the Cigarettes from.
Create an alternate habit when the urge comes like Sugar free lossenges or toffees. Also what makes it difficult to quit smoking is because smoking gets linked to habits in your day to day life : coffee breaks, TV , post dinner etc. It is important that you identify these associative habits and break away from them.
There are a lot of apps available for phones now that help you stay motivated and work like companion and help you quit. Find an app and use them.

There are many brands that sell nicotine patchs, Chewing gums lossenges, vapour etc. There can be picked up from any pharmacy. These contain only nictine minus the 6900 harmful chemicals. These can be used when the urge to smoke comes.
